I was an integral member of an agile team that developed a Cataloguing Administration Portal designed specifically for op-shops across Australia. The portal boasts a suite of features such as a secure login system, a comprehensive admin portal, seamless communication with the Amazon Marketplace via API, a robust notification system, and fundamental security measures to ensure data integrity and user privacy. Our technology stack included React JS for the frontend, Flask and Python for the backend, complemented by AWS for cloud services and MySQL for database management.

Summary

During my internship, I had the opportunity to contribute to two distinct projects.

The initial venture involved the Poppy Humanoid, which is recognized as the inaugural 3D-printed humanoid robot. Under the project named PoppyOpt: Experimenting on Poppy Humanoid using Bayesian Optimization we utilized Bayesian Optimization techniques to increase the accuracy and performance of the experiments. We employed benchmark functions to serve as reward functions and conducted a comparative analysis of Bayesian Optimization and Genetic Algorithms, focusing on their respective Function Evaluation Times.

The second undertaking was in the realm of Deep Learning, specifically targeting the MIMIC III dataset—a comprehensive EMR collection comprising over 1.8 million patient records. Here, we implemented Attention Networks to analyze and interpret this extensive dataset effectively.

Throughout the duration of the internship, I was surrounded by incredibly supportive and inspiring teams. Their encouragement played a pivotal role in my experience, and I am profoundly grateful for their guidance and camaraderie.

Summary

In collaboration with a dedicated team guided by the Dean of Mathematics and a Senior Lecturer at SASTRA University, I engaged in a research assistantship. Throughout this period, I joined efforts with a fellow colleague and PhD candidates to develop a project titled Sequencing by Hybridization of DNA. Our collective expertise led to the creation of an innovative, non-heuristic algorithm that demonstrated significant improvements in both accuracy and time efficiency. This newly devised algorithm, which we have named HGGA, integrates the principles of HyperGraphs, specifically their Uni-modular property, with the evolutionary computation techniques of a Genetic Algorithm, commonly applied in optimization and search tasks.
